Who can initiate a public records request?
Anyone may initiate a request for public records.
How soon must the agency respond to my request?
Per Indiana Code, the agency must provide acknowledgement of the receipt of the request within 24 hours if the request is in person. Mail, faxes, emails, and online forms must be acknowledged within 7 business days. Fulfillment of the request must then be within a "reasonable time" of the agency which is determinant upon the amount of the data requested, the specificity of the request, and the workload/call volume of the Lebanon Police Department.

Body/Dash Camera Footage - $150.00 per video

All fees are required to be paid prior to release of the records. Requesters will be notified of total charges after the requested records are identified. Payments may be made in person, mailed to the Lebanon Police Department (201 E. Main St. Lebanon, IN 46052), or with a credit/debit card through this portal. If my request is approved, how long will it take to receive my records?
Most reports are available 24 - 48 hours after the report has been made. There are some circumstances that may delay release of records, but you will receive a response within seven (7) business days and often sooner. Requests for body or dash camera footage takes more time to process and depends on the number of requests the Lebanon Police Department staff are already working on, the number of videos in your request, and the length of each video. Expect one to two months, at least, to prepare body/dash camera footage.
What records are exempt from disclosure?
The Indiana Public Records Code explains that a number of document types and information are prohibited from being disclosed or are exempt from public inspection and copying. Types of documents or information that may not be available are: documents currently involved or linked with an "active criminal investigation" by the Lebanon Police Department and/or the Boone County Prosecutor's Office, records involving a minor (under the age of 18), or protected health (medical) information. A comprehensive explanation of those exemptions can be found in Indiana Code 5-14-3-4. If only a portion of a record is exempt from disclosure, the Public Records Clerk or designee will redact the exempted portions before providing the document.
